Baby Update, We're Getting Excited!

Well I think it's time for a baby update.  I haven't said much about how my pregnancy is going, other then to announce what I'm having.  And seeing as how I'm almost 25 weeks, now seems like as good of a time as any.

So as I said I am now 24.6 weeks (give or take a day) along.  This pregnancy thing hasn't really been to bad for me.  I never really had any morning sickness.  Just a lot of nausea, and to be honest I didn't really notice it until one day I started feeling like myself again, and could actually cook without opening then door for some fresh air. I was tired a lot (still am), but I was always somewhat of a "sleeper."  I LOVE my sleep, so it was nice to have a reason to take a nap after only being awake for a few hours :D

I did develop some pretty bad headaches around the start of my second tri-mester.  I even had to stay home for a couple of days.  And now that I think about it I haven't had one it a while (knock on wood).  Now that I'm coming around to the home stretch (the last trimester)  I am noticing my feet get swollen after work, or if I haven't been able to put them up for a while.  My wedding ring is getting a little snug :*(  and I have a constant ache in my back and legs.  But I would gladly take all of the symptoms over the horrible morning sickness, I have heard horror stories about.

Now, even though I haven't had to deal with any of the bad symptoms, there are a few things I could live without.  I found out in the first month that I have the Strep B virus.  Which I guess is not harmful to the mom, but can be harmful to the baby.  So when I go in for delivery I get a shot of antibiotics to fight that.  Kind of a bummer, but not really life altering I realize, but who wants a shot?  Of course that will feel like a tickle once I'm done pushing this little girl out of me.  But still, who wants a shot?

And last week, I found out that I have O- blood type.  So all you moms out there know what that means.  I unfortunately did not.  So here is an explanation as to what the big deal is, for those of you who are clueless, as I was.  When you are pregnant it is normal for your blood and your babies blood to mix, especially during labor and delivery.  Which is normally not a big deal, as long as your RH factors are compatible. Well in the case of a person that is O- the ONLY RH factor that is compatible with you, is another O- blood type.  (or so I'm gathering).  So how do we remedy this?  Well a simple blood test (on Jan 26th) will tell me if our blood has started to mix yet and if it's compatible.  If it's started to mix, and they blood types don't like each other, then it's time for a shot! (whee for shots!).  If everything is ok, then no shot....yet.  At delivery I will need a shot.  (that's 2 for at delivery for those keeping track.)  When my little Madison is born, her blood will mix with mine, thus activating antibodies to fight what they see as an invasion.  And from that point on, those antibodies will be there waiting to attack what they see as an invasion...a baby.  So after this one, every pregnancy with require 2 shots! TWO, one at around 28 weeks, and one at delivery.  Ohh I loath shots :(  But to be fair, I will put up with a couple of shots, for a cute squishy baby.  And besides, like I already said, those shots are gonna be nothing compared to pushing out said squishy baby.

So, lets recap.  At 25ish weeks, we have encountered mild nausea, swollen feet, strep B, a negative RH factor, some smell aversions, and a big aversion to eggs (which I still can't eat).  So all in all I think this is in the category of a "smooth" pregnancy.  But trust me, I still pray for things to go smoothly, and for Miss Madison to stay healthy, and keep kicking me in the bladder.  Which is an annoyance, but then if she's kicking me in the bladder, then I know she's there and it makes me smile to know she just might be doing it to annoy me. Like mother like daughter.

And as for the daddy in this little family.  Well, he is all I could ask for and more.  He gets me ice water with a straw (a must), clementines right before bed (they taste so good then) and grilled cheese sandwiches.  But most importantly, he is so excited to have a daughter, he talks to her thru my belly every day.  And kisses her and tell her he loves her every morning and night.  Now, hopefully she has an athletic bone in her body so she can play soccer with her Dad, and get a scholarship to play soccer at some big name school, so she can get a good education, and make lots of money, so she can take care of her parents in our old age....but we haven't started planning that far ahead yet ;)

So basically, we're getting excited!
